If you're experiencing issues with the Curator Wireless Print Server on a PC, this guide walks you through updated steps to resolve issues

Updated over a month ago

Step 1: Close the Curator Print Server

Make sure the Curator Wireless Print Server application is completely closed before starting any troubleshooting steps. Force quit if needed.

Step 2: Install the Correct Printer Drivers

Check that the latest printer drivers are installed on your PC. These are typically available from your printer manufacturer’s website. Having the correct driver is critical for communication between the print server and your printer.

Step 3: Rename Your PC (If Needed)

If your PC has a long or complex name, it may cause connection issues. Rename it using a simple, one-word name without any spaces or special characters.

How to Rename Your PC:

  1. Open the Control Panel.

  2. Go to System and Security > System.

  3. Click Advanced system settings.

  4. Under the Computer Name tab, click Change.

  5. Enter a simple name (e.g., PhotoPC) and confirm.

  6. Restart your computer to apply the new name.

Step 4: Launch and Configure the Curator Print Server

After the PC restarts:

  1. Open the Curator Wireless Print Server app.

  2. Make sure the correct printer is selected.

  3. Uncheck any options under Advanced Printer Settings unless you specifically require them.

  4. Make sure AutoPrint is enabled.

Step 5: Connect Devices to the Same Wi-Fi Network

Your PC and iPad must be connected to the same wireless network for the print server to work properly. Double-check that they’re on the same Wi-Fi SSID.

Step 6: Refresh the Event on Your iPad

  1. Open the Curator app on your iPad.

  2. Re-download or refresh the event from the dashboard to ensure it includes the latest settings.

Step 7: Set Up Printer Access in the Curator App

  1. In the Curator app, double-tap the top-right corner to access the hidden menu.

  2. Tap Printers.

  3. Select CuratorPrintServer from the list if it does not come up then check permissions: If the Curator Live app isn't detecting the print server, make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the print server.
Also, check that network access is enabled for the Curator App in your iPad or iPhone settings.
    To do this, go to:
Settings > Apps > Curator > Permissions, and ensure local network access is turned on.

  4. Last resort: Under Host Name, enter the exact name of your PC

  5. Set the Port to 3000.

Example: If your PC name is PrintStation, enter PrintStation.

Step 8: Run a Test Print

Take a sample photo or video from within the Curator app and attempt to print it. If it prints successfully, your setup is working correctly.
