Follow these steps to add a CustomFX experience, choose a template, and customize it with your own overlays, backgrounds, pre-rolls, post-rolls, and audio.
CustomFX is the recommended experience type for 360 booths because it includes advanced customization features, timeline editing, overlays, audio layering, pre-roll/post-roll support, templates, and additional creative controls not available in the standard Video experience.
1. Add the CustomFX experience
Go to Page 3 → Experiences and choose CustomFX.
2. Open the Timeline Builder
Go to Page 4 → click the down arrow on the right side of the experience to see the CustomFX Video Timeline Builder.
3. Choose a Starting Template
Click TEMPLATES.
The Curator CustomFX Video Templates gallery will open.
Select the template you want to use.
Templates are fully customizable and are the recommended way to get started.
4. Add Your Overlay
In the timeline, select the Overlay layer if available.
If no overlay layer exists, double-click an empty layer above all existing layers in the timeline, and choose Overlay from the asset dropdown. After the layer appears, drag it along the timeline to control when it appears in the video.
Scroll down and click UPLOAD to add your overlay.
Use overlays with transparent backgrounds or transparent cutout areas for best results.
Make sure the overlay layer matches the full length of the video timeline so it appears throughout the whole video. Drag the edge of the layer if needed.
Important: Keep Sizes Consistent
For the best results, all asset sizes and aspect ratios should match:
Recording Size
Composition Size
Overlay Size
Background Size
Pre-roll/Post-roll Size
If assets appear stretched, cropped, or misaligned, the dimensions or aspect ratios do not match.
Recording & Composition Sizes
Square | Landscape | Portrait |
720 × 720 | 1920 × 1080 | 1080 × 1920 |
1080 × 1080 | 1280 × 960 | 1080 × 1350 |
1280 × 1280 | 1280 × 720 | 960 × 1280 |
| 1080 × 608 | 720 × 1280 |
5. Add Optional Assets
Background
Double-click an empty layer below all existing layers in the timeline.
Choose Background from the asset dropdown.
After the layer appears, drag it along the timeline to control when it appears in the video.
Upload your background file and extend the layer to match the full video length.
Enable Background Removal
Select the recording layers where the background should be applied.
Scroll to the bottom of the Timeline Builder.
Set Background Removal to Magic.
Pre-Roll / Post-Roll
Double-click an empty layer in the timeline.
Choose Pre-Roll or Post-Roll from the asset dropdown.
After the layer appears, drag it along the timeline to control when it appears in the video:
Pre-Roll: Place before the recording layers
Post-Roll: Place after the recording layers
If you are using a template, you may need to adjust the existing layers to fit your pre-roll or post-roll timing.
Upload your video asset.
Audio
Double-click an empty layer in the timeline.
Choose Audio from the asset dropdown.
After the layer appears, drag it along the timeline to control when it appears in the video.
Upload your audio file.
Make sure the audio length is long enough to match the full composition length. If the audio is too short, upload a longer file. If it is too long, you can trim the audio layer as needed.
Quick Tips
Overlay Format: Use transparent PNG overlays for best results.
Aspect Ratio: Keep all asset sizes consistent throughout the project.
Recommended Sizes: Use 1080 × 1920px for vertical experiences or 1920 × 1080px for horizontal experiences.
Audio Length: Ensure the audio layer matches the full composition length.
Template Length: If the video ends too soon, extend the composition or shorten layers so everything lines up correctly.
Keep Layers Lean: Additional overlays, backgrounds, and audio layers increase processing time and memory usage, especially on older iPads.
Recommended Video Length: Aim for videos around 10 seconds for smoother performance and faster processing.
Always Test Before Events: Test your experience on the actual device before going live.
