How to Set Up an IRIS Photography Event in Curator Live

IRIS Photography was one of the standout setups we showed at Photo Booth Expo in Las Vegas, and since then a lot of customers have asked how to build the same type of experience.

Updated this week

This setup allows you to capture a close-up eye photo using the Curator Photography app and process it using the AI IRIS option inside a Photography Event.

For the best overall experience, we currently recommend using the macOS Photography app for IRIS Photography. Customers can also use the Android version, and the iOS version can be provided through TestFlight while approval is pending.

What You Need Before You Start

Before running an IRIS Photography event, make sure you have:

  • A Curator Live account

  • A Photography Event created on the Curator Live website

  • The AI IRIS option enabled in that event

  • The Curator Photography app installed

  • A supported camera setup

  • A macro lens for the best close-up eye detail (A lens like the Canon RF 100mm Macro is ideal because IRIS Photography requires sharp close-up detail.)

Step 1: Create a New Event

Start by logging into your Curator Live account on the web.

From your dashboard:

  1. Click Create New Event

  2. Move through the event form until you reach Page 3

Step 2: Add a Photography Experience

On Page 3 of the event form:

  1. Choose to add a Photography Experience

  2. Continue to the next page

This tells Curator that this event will use the Photography workflow rather than a standard booth-only setup.

Step 3: Add the AI IRIS Option

On Page 4 of the event form:

  1. Locate the AI options

  2. Click Choose and add the AI Iris options you would like to use or add your own.

This is the setting that allows the event to use the IRIS Photography workflow.

Once this is enabled, your event is now prepared for IRIS image processing.

Step 4: Adjust the Rest of the Event Settings

After enabling the Photography Experience and AI IRIS option, you can continue adjusting the event however needed.

Depending on your event, you may want to review:

  • Branding

  • Delivery settings

  • Capture settings

  • Output preferences

  • Any other event-specific options

Once everything looks correct, save the event.

Step 5: Download the Photography App

After the event has been created, the next step is to install the Curator Photography app on the device you plan to use.

We currently recommend:

  • macOS for the best IRIS Photography workflow

  • Android if preferred (download and install the APK although you will need to enable "Install from unknown sources" on their Android device, then open the APK to install it.)

  • iOS through TestFlight if you are testing on iPhone or iPad

Step 6: Log In and Download the Event

Once the Photography app is installed:

  1. Open the app

  2. Log in using your Curator Live account

  3. Find and download the Photography Event you just created

After the event is downloaded, it is ready to run inside the Photography app.

Step 7: Run the Event

Once the event is loaded into the Photography app:

  1. Open the event

  2. Confirm your camera and hardware are connected properly

  3. Begin capturing IRIS images

The app will use the event settings you configured on the web, including the AI IRIS option.
